iBellieve in Love 5K
Carolina Dreams, a student-athlete organization bringing children treated at North Carolina Children’s Hospital to campus to spend time with student-athletes while attending athletic events, is aiming to expand its horizons this spring. These children and their families have inspired us and we are trying to find more ways to engage and interact with them.
After meeting and talking with Simon Ibell, the founder and CEO of iBellieve Foundation, we immediately knew this was a cause we wanted to support. Simon is one incredible individual. He is one of approximately 30 people in Canada (and 2,000 worldwide) born with a rare genetic disorder known as Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) II Hunter Syndrome. Through his foundation, launched in 2010, he has three goals at the forefront of his mission statement; to fund the search for a cure for MPS II, to fund the construction of a world-class facility for MPS and related disorders, and to create a global campaign called “Be Fair to Rare” – a movement to raise funds, awareness, and encourage policy changes for the rare disease community as a whole.
We have a unique opportunity to be on the forefront of helping with this amazing foundation and we would love to have your support! This 5K supporting the iBellieve Foundation provides an opportunity for us to work with the North Carolina Children’s Hospital, spend time with the children and their families, and raise awareness for Hunter Syndrome and other rare diseases.
The existing research for MPS II will be centered largely around existing space in UNC-Chapel Hill; the 2-3 year plan is to construct a physical health center to act as a treatment facility and center of excellence for research and treatment for patients with MPS and related Lysosomal Storage disorders.
